In order to maintain balance, The Jellyfish Spirit made a reincarnation cycle and managed the amount of souls in The World at once. Whenever someone or something dies, whether it’s a person, creature, or plant, The Jellyfish Spirit will introduce another soul back into the world.

In The World, the goal for reincarnation is to become a jellyfish. Once the life cycle of a jellyfish ends, they will immediately reincarnate back into a person.
All jellyfish are souls about to leave the reincarnation cycle.

Because of the need to maintain balance, The Jellyfish Spirit has an abundance of souls. These extra souls are left in the metaphysical plane where The Jellyfish Spirit resides and redistributed into different living things whenever needed. As a result, most souls don’t stay the same after going through the reincarnation cycle.

There are two exceptions to this:
The soul of The Prophet immediately gets reincarnated once the current generation passes on.
The soul of elves may still wait in metaphysical planes, but they don’t get redistributed. They will always reincarnate into a full-blooded elf.

Because elves can live for hundreds of years, there are not many souls to pass on. Thus, it is rare for new elves to be born.

In addition, because of this, elves have come to understand the way reincarnation works in their own terms: whenever an elf dies, another is born to replace them.
